About the Blog

You’ll find content on Data Protection and Privacy Laws here, with more emphasis on the Indian Legal Jurisprudence in the field (which really does not exist yet).

This blog is not just for “law-people”. It is for EVERYONE! EVERYONE’s data/information is used on the internet, and therefore, I believe that EVERYONE should KNOW the consequences of using the internet! For example, how something as simple as searching for “cute dog photos” on Google affects them. I want people to know that THEIR CONSENT MATTERS! That the terms and conditions of using a website that they are agreeing to are one-sided and unfair! I want to make this emerging field of law accessible to everyone. I would be talking about all this with reference to the Indian legal system.

Why Data “Dino” and not any other name? The blog could have been called The Data Elephant or The Data Talker, but why specifically “Dino”? Well, we all know that Dinosaurs are extinct. A meteoroid shower killed all the Dinosaurs. Their end was sudden. Dinosaurs did not know what hit them. They might have looked up in the sky and thought “oooh nice”. Similarly, privacy is extinct these days, killed by revolution in internet technology (targeted advertisements, big data, data mining, etc.). This revolution in technology was so sudden that we did not know what hit us! Concerns of data privacy have only grown since scandals like “Cambridge Analytica” came in picture, but unfair data mining has been going on long before that. So privacy is our Dino, and technology is our meteoroid.
